DocSpera Extends its Technology Platform to include the Care Team Members Supporting Physicians and Surgeons

DocSpera, a HIPAA-Compliant platform for secure collaboration now enables physicians to coordinate and communicate with their medical staff to expedite workflow

DocSpera, the leading web- and mobile-based platform for verified healthcare professionals, announced today that it is extending its secure collaboration offering to care team members. The company recently launched a new version of its collaboration service, which in addition to providing access to peer physicians and ‘vetted’ medical device representatives, now gives physicians the ability to onboard and control the access for their care team members to streamline the patient care process and ensure appropriate security, privacy and HIPAA compliance. With the inclusion of care teams, physicians can now create more robust networks for image sharing and newly launched video case sharing for improved day-to-day workflow management.

The updates to DocSpera follow a significant increase in user adoption since the company launched late last year. DocSpera has since penetrated over 500 institutions and practice groups. ”We are excited to launch the addition of care teams on DocSpera.  This will significantly improve day-to-day workflow management for our members.” Says Sy Fahimi, co-founder.  “Thousands of surgeons are relying on DocSpera to collaborate on complex cases, determine appropriate treatment and preoperative plans, and communicate while on the go. Care team members are significant participants in the support of care delivery and can now more effectively and efficiently engage with their physicians’ ecosystem on the platform.”

Through a rigorous user verification process, DocSpera allows only qualified users access to the platform – ensuring the highest level of security and HIPAA compliance. Healthcare professionals can use DocSpera to collaborate with their colleagues via proprietary encrypted messaging and case sharing capabilities.

A secure, institution-agnostic collaboration platform for all non-EMR workflows that is both mobile-ready and compliant is increasingly important for healthcare professionals to improve their efficiency.  Most traditional Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems are limited only to providers within a single hospital system and do not touch most of professional clinical interaction connection points across the care environment, as a result most physician to physician and care team member communications continue to occur outside of EMR systems. This results in slower and more fragmented care team communications as well as unneeded risk around compliance with privacy and security regulations.

This latest release highlights the Silicon Valley-based DocSpera’s continuing commitment to empower patient care providers to communicate and collaborate both securely and on their device of choice. For more information, please visit: https://docspera.com/

HSS Plans to Implement new HIPAA Audits to Monitor Compliance this Summer

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) plans to implement random HIPAA audits to monitor compliance, beginning as soon as later this summer.

OCR first piloted the HIPAA auditing program in 2012. The agency expects to the random HIPAA audits to help reduce major threats to patient health information confidentiality and network security. Read More

While Electronic Medical Record(EMR) systems have provided some efficiencies in clinical workflows, most of care team communication occurs outside of the EMR systems. The EMR does not touch most of clinical interaction points, thereby cannot cover holistic workflow. Typical email communication systems also lack compliance with privacy and security regulations.

Having a communications platform for all of those non-EMR workflows that can be securely used on your mobile device and your computers has become increasingly important for healthcare professionals to improve their efficiency.

DocSpera provides a HIPAA compliant communication platform with web and mobile-based solutions that ensures access only to trusted colleagues. Through a rigorous physician verification process, DocSpera allows only qualified users access to the platform. Healthcare professionals can use DocSpera to confidently collaborate with their colleagues within encrypted network and peer to peer messaging. Thousands of surgeons and care teams are relying on DocSpera to collaborate on complex cases, determine preoperative plans and schedule surgeries.

The platform offers secure communication within and outside of an institution, provides the ability to store, annotate and forward images and videos and enables sharing of case information with a verified network of physicians and medical device industry representatives.

DocSpera Raises Capital to Support its Care Collaboration Platform

DocSpera is a secure platform for physicians and medical device professionals to collaborate and improve care

Sunnyvale, CA

Compliant Innovations announced the closing of its Series A financing to support the rapidly growing demand for its DocSpera platform. Launched in 2013, DocSpera allows surgeons and procedural specialists to collaborate with peers and medical device representatives on patient care. The investors in the Series A round include Lifeforce Ventures and Attractor Ventures.

“In complex procedures, care collaboration can be difficult because of the need to protect patient health information.” said Sy Fahimi, co-founder and chief executive officer. “We launched DocSpera to give extended care teams that sit across multiple institutions, departments and geographies, an easy to use HIPAA-compliant communication platform for  streamlining the collaboration required to deliver the highest level of patient care in complex cases.”

DocSpera provides tools to create secure networks of verified physicians, nurses, and medical device representatives to share specific patient case information, discuss therapies, and review new procedures and medical devices. Since its launch, DocSpera has signed up over a thousand surgeons from leading institutions such as Cleveland Clinic, Hospital for Special Surgery, Mayo and many other large practices.

“In surgical care, our care teams often include other physicians, nurses, and medical device industry representatives who play a consultative role on the cases,” said DocSpera member, Dr. Orrin Franko, Orthopedic Surgery Resident at University of California, San Diego. “While EMRs have improved some communication challenges, they do not work across different institutions and are limited only to providers within a single hospital system. DocSpera allows for sharing of critical patient images, videos, and clinical history among colleagues worldwide via a single platform that crosses medical devices. Combined with an intuitive interface on mobile devices, this tool greatly improves efficiency and collaboration.”

DocSpera was designed by practicing surgeons to reflect the way care teams actually work. The solution helps to streamline the clinical workflow within and across institutions. With DocSpera, physicians are able to get immediate second opinions and communicate with their care teams in real-time. Medical device representatives are also able to save time and costs by having direct access to pertinent information such as x-rays and surgery schedules.
